Venezuela’s President Hugo Chávez said by midnight Monday that the installation of US military bases in Colombia “forces us to revise the diplomatic relations” with this country.
“Now the Yankees want to install in Colombia four military bases more. Off course, they use euphemisms and say that they are not Yankee bases, but Colombian bases and say that they can come there. They are going to be there permanently,” said Chávez from the Presidential Palace of Miraflores during a TV phone call to the program La Hojilla broadcasted by Venezolana de Televisión (VTV).He informed that he gave instructions to the Foreign Affairs Minister Nicolás Maduro and added that even though the decision was made “because they (the Colombian government) are opening the doors to those who attack us permanently. They open the doors to those who plan new attacks against us, not only against Venezuela but also against other countries and to those who have overthrown governments and support the coup d’État in Honduras,” he said referring to the US government.
He highlighted that in Colombia the US troops “do what they want” and warned that this represents a threat for Venezuela.
Regarding the video appeared in Bogotá, with which they try to link the Ecuadorian President, Rafael Correa, with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), the Venezuelan head of state said that he is sure that “it’s all false.”
“What is really demonstrated in Colombia, and not because of videos but thought several evidences provided by some Colombian institutions, is the funding of many senators, deputes, governors, mayors, as well as presidential campaigns with millions of dollars from drug trafficking,” he concluded.
