Dear comrades,
We wish to extend greetings to your forum. We also send our solidarity in your efforts to have Liliany released immediately.
Her work with The National Federation of Agricultural Farming Unions, part of which was a tour of speaking engagements in Australia, was obviously too effective in explaining the human rights crisis in Colombia. Her imprisonment is a travesty of justice, without even a trial! As is unfortunately often the case, authoritarian states seek to remove human rights activists from the social life of a country, because to leave them active is to leave a dangerous question in the minds of the people.
As Steve Biko said: “ The most powerful weapons in the hands of the oppressor are the minds of the oppressed.”
We demand that Liliany Obando be freed immediately. We demand that she be uninhibited in her human rights activities. We look forward to having her back in Australia to continue to inform Australian workers about the realities facing our fellow workers in Colombia.
Please insure that Liliany receives our best wishes.
In solidarity,
Greg Hardy
